Growing a Greener World Episode 813 - New Ways of Growing Our Favorite Vegetables
For as long as tomatoes have been grown, the techniques to do so haven’t changed all that much. But leave it to horticultural and tomato growing expert, Brie Arthur to turn conventional wisdom upside down. Never one to be satisfied with old-school thinking, Brie is exploring new ways of growing an old favorite. While dealing with her own challenges of inhospitable soil, and advancements in growing technology, Brie is charting new ground to see if she can create the latest, best way to grow America’s favorite vegetable while opening new opportunities to potential gardeners that may now finally have a way to grow them too. In this episode, we track Brie’s progress as she works through the season and numerous challenges of trialing these techniques for the very first time.

Переглядів 67414 днів тому
Little did Robert and Suzy Currey know that an invitation to lunch in a small Georgia town would forever change their lives. But that’s exactly what happened. And now, in the town they’ve called home for the past 15 years, they’re changing the lives of many others in the poorest county in the state. The Currey’s early success with their backyard vegetable garden took off and continued to expand...
Growing a Greener World Episode 811 - The Compost Pedallers
Переглядів 3,9 тис.14 днів тому
America is on a mission to lighten their environmental footprint while reducing waste going into landfills. Many urban and suburban homeowners know that composting is a great way to do both. Yet not everyone is ready to take the dive into managing a backyard heap of food scraps and yard debris. In Austin, locals can have the best of both words. The Compost Pedallers is a small eco-minded compan...

Bringing your work home with you can actually be a very good thing… when both your vocation and your avocation relates to gardening. Such is the case for Dan Benarcik and his wife Peggy Anne Montgomery. Both work in professional horticulture: Dan, at one of the country’s most admired public gardens, while Peggy is a champion of native plants and the important role they play in the landscape. Bu...

Stephen Ritz will be the first to tell you he’s not a farmer. But while his days are spent mostly indoors and with no tractor in sight, he tends to perhaps the most important crop of all: hundreds of elementary school-aged students growing up in the poorest congressional district in America. It is, essentially, the worst soil possible for anything to thrive. But here, Stephen embeds himself- he...

One thing all gardeners have in common is the desire to see other people’s beautiful gardens. In fact, while many of our viewers enjoy painstakingly-maintained public gardens, nearly all prefer the ideas and inspiration they receive from an up-close look at more down-to-earth personal gardens. Today, we’ll respond to many viewers’ request for more visits to personal gardens with an episode that...

Ask almost any returning war veteran and they’ll tell you that the hardest part of the war is not going, it’s coming home. The toll it takes on our soldiers is often more debilitating to the body and mind than the combat they faced. Many return with scars and baggage that makes it even harder for them to find gainful employment. Fortunately, organizations are helping connect veterans with good ...
Growing a Greener World Episode 806 - Gardening in the Desert Southwest
Переглядів 85914 днів тому
When it comes to gardening, one size most certainly does not fit all. What grows well in the cool Pacific Northwest would melt in the Florida heat. What thrives in the mild Southeast might never be hardy enough to handle a typical Midwestern winter? For many of us unfamiliar with the desert Southwest, we may believe that nothing can grow there at all. Yet it boasts one of the most horticultural...

Growing a Greener World Episode 804 - Gardening for Butterflies & Other Beneficial Insects
Переглядів 3,1 тис.14 днів тому
Ask a gardener these days what’s on their short list of upcoming projects, and they’ll likely name the addition or expansion of a butterfly or pollinator garden. That’s because the loss of their native habitats to urban sprawl and the widespread use of herbicides in commercial farming has decimated many of the plants these insects need to survive. As gardeners often do, they’re now rising up in...

Joe...another great episode showcasing a beautiful garden and caretakers/creators of that space. My wife and I feel the same about our gardens and it is our place of refuge, work, creativity, and for us, from a biblical worldview, it's how God intended. Adam and Eve were placed in the garden as caretakers and when I hear people say how connected they feel to their garden(s) it is no surprise to me/us and this story shares a great example of that connectedness. Thanks for sharing their story with us.

Agreed. We got quite a few requests for this episode to cover your area. I was glad we could finally do that. 👍

Beautiful! The only garden of this kind I have visited is Butchart Gardens in Victoria BC. I've been there twice. BREATHTAKING! I assume Chanticlear is similarly breathtaking.

It is and I’ve been to both. Both are stunning. 👍

My favorite Philadelphia garden. I keep returning to see what’s new although it still feels like an old friend.

yet another great show, garden & gardener. Dan was a featured speaker at the Georgia Perennial Plant Association Seminar in 2023 and he was fanstasic. His love of gardening, enthusiasm for all things plants, his design(s) and creativity, and his inspiration and encouragement made for a magical afternoon. Thanks ever so much to you and Dan & Peggy Anne for sharing it all with us !!!

By the way Joe and team, today was Day 1 of my knowledge that you post all content on UA-cam for which I’m a Premium Member. Thanks very much for this decision because I gave up cable and broadcast television years ago. Most people see the horizon-traditional media is dying while Internet, private servers, and YT are thriving.
